What is UV varnish?
Let’s try to make it as simple as possible. There are 2 main types of laminations provided by Explast, mainly BOPP lamination which is done for boxes that are used for frozen foods, and UV varnish used to protect box packaging from damage to sunlight. Boxes used to pack ice-creams are a perfect example of BOPP lamination. You must probably have come across a UV varnish box yes yes. Spices are usually sold in UV varnish packaging.
Which businesses can use UV varnish?
Who uses laminated boxes you might be wondering? Businesses that sell foods that are frozen need to make use of laminated packaging. This includes products such as nuggets, sorbets, fish fingers among others. The purpose of lamination is to make the boxes resistant to humidity. UV packaging on the other hand prevents the color of the packaging from fading away due to sunlight damage when exposed to sunlight or heat, in shops or supermarkets when they are displayed on shelves. It is undeniable that both of them offer great protection. Yet it is not their sole purpose. They can also be used for esthetic purposes given that they are produced in a gloss or matt finish on boxes. It does not end here, this amazing packaging has some extra benefits.

What do we propose at Explast?
At Explast, we have developed paper packages with UV varnish to respond to businesses’ need of providing a safe product wrapped in secure packaging regardless of the sun, cold, or other harmful exposure. Firstly, we propose Bopp lamination in 2 finishes, matt or glossy. Matt lamination gives a more natural and minimalistic look. It is soft and pleasant to handle. Simple but effective. The gloss effect on the other side provides a shiny look with bright printing. It is pleasant to touch, looks sophisticated and modern. Based on your brand identity, you can choose the best option for you. Keep in mind that laminations can only be done outside of the boxes only – yes it still offers protection!
For BOPP, lamination must be made completely all around the box and for UV we can do spot lamination so as to easily write or put stamps on specific spaces of the box, for example for expiry dates. I know explaining all here might be difficult for you to digest until you see it yourself.
